HEMP BEDDING – YOUR NEW SUSTAINABLE CHOICE FOR THE BEDROOM

Sleep is so much better when you know your bedding is not only beautiful to look at but is also friendly to you and the environment. At Linen Tales, sustainability was always one of our top priorities and now, along with linen, we have a new natural and sustainable option for your comfort – hemp bedding.

In recent years, hemp fabric is gaining more attention and popularity. Especially among those who seek to be more environmentally responsible and care about the quality and origins of the products they use. Thus, more and more often hemp bedding finds its place in modern homes, bringing a good night’s sleep along with great looks and amazing quality.

So let us tell you a bit more about the qualities and benefits of hemp bedding.

So what is organic hemp bedding?

To understand what is hemp bedding and why it is so great, we need to start from the fabric. Hemp fabric is made from the Cannabis Sativa plant, which is grown for industrial purposes and used in various industries. Different parts of this plant are used for textiles, rope making, fuel, food and food supplements, and many more. This makes the hemp plant highly sustainable as the whole plant is used without any parts going to waste.

And that is not all – there are other factors that make this wonderful fabric sustainable. Currently, the most popular textile for bedding (and many other textile products) is cotton. Sadly, it requires enormous amounts of water to grow cotton, part of which is later made into low-quality products. Meanwhile, hemp is not as thirsty – it requires 50 % less water than cotton. Also, being a high-yielding plant, hemp needs less land than cotton to produce the same amount of material for fabric.

So when you use hemp bedding, you can be sure it is much friendlier to the environment than many other bedding options out there. And because it is so durable, you will be able to enjoy it for years. But if your hemp fabric products reached their end of life, they can be safely composted, contributing to less waste.

Another important thing that makes hemp bedding organic is that hemp plants are true fighters. Why? Well, unlike popular cotton, hemp does not need toxic pesticides and insecticides to grow. So organic hemp bedding is a perfect choice if you want to sleep tightly at night, knowing your bed linens are safe and friendly to you and the environment.

Shortly, with organic hemp bedding, everybody wins – you get to enjoy a good night’s sleep in your cloud-soft hemp sheets, you know you made an eco-friendly choice that contributes to a safer and cleaner environment, and… you can decorate your bedroom with amazing looking bed linens! Yes, hemp bedding truly looks stunning – just take a look at our hemp bedding collection.

Why choosing organic hemp bedding means choosing right

These days, the market offers a huge variety of bedding options. So there’s always a question – how to choose good bedding? And finding an answer might be a tricky task. We know how tempting it might be to buy a bedding set that perfectly matches our interior while making a compromise about the quality. And we know how easy it is to get lost analyzing the differences between cotton, sateen, and percale or figuring out the thread counts and quite ironically losing our sleep over the bedding.

Working with linen for many years and currently with hemp fabric and making handcrafted high-quality bedding ourselves (not to mention happily sleeping in it), we narrowed down the main qualities of bedding that make it a fool-proof choice. So here is what you need to look for in bedding and how organic hemp bedding meets all of the criteria:

Breathability and thermoregulation

Did you know the skin is the biggest organ in the human body? And one of its amazing functions is to help regulate the temperature. However, if the skin is covered with poorly-breathable materials, it has difficulty maintaining a comfortable body temperature, leaving you sweaty, too hot, or shivering. So the bedding should always be highly breathable. Luckily, hemp bedding has splendid breathability and thermoregulation properties, allowing your skin to breathe, quickly evaporating the moisture, and letting you feel comfortable all night long.

Durability
No one wants to buy new bedding after just a couple of washes, right? Although it’s difficult to know before buying, good bedding is highly durable. Just like linen, hemp fabric is known for its strength so your organic hemp bedding will last for many years without wearing and tearing or losing its qualities.

Care
To maintain hygiene and for esthetical purposes, bedding is a piece of home linen that should be washed often. So it is important that the bedding you choose can be easily washed and handled without any special treatment. Rest assured that hemp bedding does not require any special care and is easy to wash. We will talk more about that in a moment.

Looks
Last but not least, the esthetic aspect of the bedding is also important. The coziness of your bedroom is important to make you feel at ease. So do choose the color and texture that will help you create a calming oasis in the bedroom. The relaxed yet luxurious looks of hemp bedding are what elevates the bedroom interior, be it a modern, rustic, or classic one. In fact, the sustainability and natural looks of organic hemp bedding are strongly in line with the home interior design trends for 2022!

How to take care of your organic hemp bedding

As mentioned earlier, we will talk a little about the care of organic hemp bedding. We say “a little” as this bedding is truly low maintenances and requires little effort and resources. Here are the basic steps of hemp bedding care:

- To keep the fabric in its best shape, machine wash or hand wash your hemp bedding in lukewarm water. Recommended temperature is 30–40°C / 86–104°F.

- You can tumble dry on a low setting to prevent the fabric from wearing and tearing. Yet if you have a choice, hang-dry your hemp bedding. Just keep it away from direct sunlight, unless it’s a white fabric.

- The hemp fabric gets a bit wrinkly after washing. But the wrinkles are a big part of the beauty, so we encourage you to embrace them. However, if you like the neat look, you can definitely iron your hemp bedding.

- In case you have stains, they should be pre-treated before washing for the best results. The process is the same as removing stains from linen.

Hemp fabric is similar to linen, so the same care instruction applies – see our product care guide for stain removal, washing, and other care questions.

Summary

As you can see, organic hemp bedding is a truly wonderful choice if you want to have a cozy atmosphere in your bedroom and enjoy a good night’s sleep. And the best thing about hemp bedding is that it is sustainable, friendly to you, and friendly to the environment.
